Campus community mourns loss of student

By Maddie Covino

In an email sent to students Monday evening, Reims Campus Director Tilman Turpin and University President Frédéric Mion announced that Ignacio Léon Bustos, a second year student in the Europe-Africa program at Sciences Po, had passed away.

On Tuesday morning Turpin announced that during this difficult time psychological support services have been and will continue to be available to students throughout the week in an email addressed to the Reims campus student body. Turpin and Deputy Director Olivier Chopin have also made themselves available. Students were emailed the schedule for the psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, and general practitioners that will be on campus.

The Mental Health Committee has issued a statement encouraging any student in need of assistance or support to reach out to the Committee or one of the Committee’s mental health resources (linked in the statement).  “In times of loss, words are hard to find,” said the Bureau des Elèves in a Facebook post on the Reims campus group. “The members of the BDE are all saddened by the recent events, and some among us have been deeply affected by this tragedy.” The student bureau and the student representatives made themselves available for students seeking support or access to resources.

Members of the Reims campus community gathered in the library courtyard at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday to pay their respects and remember Léon Bustos in a moment of silence.

Frederic Mion’s full email, as well as the current schedule concerning on-campus counseling, has been attached below.
